Your San Diego plumber, Economy Plumbing is here to help with this dry season.
This year, Southern Californians were expecting rainy, El Nino conditions. However, as of February, we’ve only received a few of those rainy days! According to the LA Times,”This El Niño is not typical of past events…. El Niño-related rainstorms have been mostly skipping Southern California, instead dumping buckets of rain and snow over Northern California.” How does this affect homes in the San Diego area? Due to the ongoing drought, your San Diego plumber can help you keep an eye on our plumbing systems. Such a dry climate can cause issues, making it hard to save money.
The San Diego climate is unique. Temperatures can vary between coastal areas and inland areas. Typically, some humidity is good for your plumbing system. However, excessive humidity can be just as damaging as excessive dryness. Unfortunately, San Diego sometimes must deal with both extremes.
Excessively dry climates can lead to the following problems.
Pipeline Cracks– The dryer the ground is, the more your pipes will age and crack. If any pipes are exposed to the air, they can be at risk for UV damage from the sun. Both of these issues will weaken pipes and lead to pipeline leaks.
Sewage Odors-This is caused by debris that may have built up somewhere along your system. If there isn’t enough rain water to flush out pipes, residue will continue building up. These issues can be made worse if your home is older and built around 50 or 60 years ago.
Effects of excessive humidity:
Besides the humid climate, which you can’t control, there are somethings that can be causing humidity in your home. If you have leaky fixtures in your bathroom. Make sure to check the toilet, faucet and bathtub. Too much humidity and our lovely warm temperatures creates a great place for mold to grow. Mold can cause a host of health problems for you, your family and your pets.
